Feel confident about every graphic novel and manga you add to your school library.
Every review on this site has been fully read and written by a certified school librarian with experience across all grade levels. Some reviews dive deep into content and themes, while others offer a quick overview, but every single one ends with a clear recommendation on whether the title belongs in your collection and why.
Elementary School – Suitable for elementary students (noted if appropriate for upper grades or all levels).
Middle School – Appropriate for general middle school audiences.
Middle School with Caution – May be better suited for older middle school students. Purchase only if it fits your student population, the maturity of readers, and your comfort level with including it in the collection.
High School – Suitable for high school students.
Do Not Add – Not recommended for any level. An explanation will be provided.
Some books will include reviews and explanations, though not all. Early on, I assigned automatic grade range ratings when reading graphic novels, and those ratings will be listed here. Newer titles, as well as books read specifically for this site, will have more detailed, in-depth reviews. Regardless of the depth of the review, know that the book has been read in its entirety.
When I started this website, I thought it would be helpful to include a 0–5 rating system for the key things librarians look for in books. Only the more recently read titles have these ratings so far, but I’ll continue adding them going forward. The following aspects will be rated:
Smoking / Drinking
Sex
Nudity
Violence
Language
